Alt/news Daily Headlines & Propaganda 20080814-18 human beings are free THURSDAY through MONDAY Part I Russia, Georgia, Ossetia and the USA

Least asked (and most important) question of the week in the US media: Why are there so many reports, from all over the world, that say that it was in fact a US-backed Georgia, rather than Russia, that initiated these hostilities? Why will they not at least address the question? Who is telling them not too? We know.

Special news and propaganda mix...Geogia, Russia, US...the most recent eruption among the middle eastern wars:

Russians are saner (Ynetnews.com - 17 Aug 08 - Israel)
...Only American service providers smile automatically while getting six bucks an hour for doing their dead-end job. Meanwhile, only American customers believe this smile and smile back. More realistic nations – that is, everyone – know there’s nothing to smile about in the pour-coffee-for-me-and-I’ll-leave-you-a-quarter industry.

Putin's Winning Hand: Once the Atlantic Alliance is shattered, America's lifeline to the world is kaput (GlobalResearch.ca - 16 Aug 08 - Quebec, Canada)
...There are no military installations in the city of Tskhinvali. In fact, there are no military targets at all. It is an industrial center consisting of lumber mills, manufacturing plants and residential areas. It is also the home to 30,000 South Ossetians. When Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili ordered the city to be bombed by warplanes and shelled by heavy artillery last Thursday, he knew that he would be killing hundreds of civilians in their homes and neighborhoods. But he ordered the bombing anyway.

Analysis: After Georgia, what next for US, Russia? (AP.google.com - 16 Aug 08 - USA)
...There is blame to go around as the United States assesses the disastrous consequences of the war in Georgia. President Bush was overconfident. Georgia's pro-American President Mikhail Saakashvili overreached. And Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin overreacted. Now what? (BTW, the writers of this article, Anne Gearan and Jennifer Loven, win my award for most positionless, meaningless article-writing of the week.)

Bush admin. disconnected from reality (PressTV - 16 Aug 08 - Tehran, Iran)
...The following is [from] Press TV's exclusive full-length interview with former US treasury official Paul Craig Roberts..."The National Endowment for Democracy is a neoconservative organization funded by the United States government and its purpose is to buy and rig elections in the former constituent parts of the Soviet empire. It is the tool of the neoconservatives for establishing American puppet states in Eastern Europe, in the Caucuses, and of course, its money and election rigging was instrumental in what they call 'the Rose Revolution' in Georgia."

Fox News: 12 Year Old Girl Tells the Truth about Georgia (YouTube - 15 Aug 08)

Russia-Georgia Conflict Fueled by Rush to Control Caspian Energy Resources (DemocracyNow.org - 15 Aug 08 - USA)
...Human Rights Watch has accused both Russian and Georgian forces of killing and injuring civilians through indiscriminate attacks over the past week of fighting. Professor and author Michael Klare joins us to talk about how the Russian-Georgian conflict is largely an energy war over who has access to the vast oil and natural gas reserves in the Caspian region.

Russia rejects west's call to recognise Georgian sovereignty (Guardian.co.uk - 13 Aug 08 - UK)
...The US and the Europe today demanded that any settlement of the conflict in Georgia had to be based on recognition of the small Black Sea country's territorial integrity. But after overrunning Georgia in five days with troops, tanks, and bombers, Russia rejected the terms...George Bush warned the Kremlin that it had to "keep its word and act to end this crisis."

The truth about South Ossetia War, Georgia attack (YouTube - 12 Aug 08)

Obama adviser compares Putin to Hitler (Guardian.co.uk - 12 Aug 08 - UK)
...The former US national security adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski, has called on the world community to isolate Russia in protest over its campaign in the Caucasus, likening its tactics to those of "Hitler or Stalin". Brzezinski, who was the national security adviser under President Jimmy Carter from 1977 to 1981, and is now an occasional adviser to the Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, said the Russian prime minister, Vladimir Putin, was "following a course that is horrifyingly similar to that taken by Stalin and Hitler in the 1930s".

USA can't do much to stop determined Russia (Boston.com - 11 Aug 08 - USA)
...The Russian Bear is back, and the United States doesn't seem to be able to do much about it. The United States saw trouble coming between Russia and Georgia, a former Soviet republic turned nemesis, but didn't have enough leverage, focus or resolve to intervene. Even Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, a specialist on the old Soviet Union, may have misjudged the combustible combination of Russian grievance and ambition.
